This week’s box (July 20th):
Sweet Onions: The spring planted succession is finally bulbing up, so we’ll continue to have sweet onions for a good few weeks.
Salad Mix: Hope you are having fun making lots of salads.
Head Lettuce: Redleaf variety this week — we grow one called New Red Fire. Great for wraps!
Cabbage: Red cabbage this week.
Chard: Our chard crop has been really nice this year. We put it right by a water line, so it has been getting lots of water with resulting large and delicious chard.
Beets: Beet salad time!
Zucchini: This is the first cut of the zucchini for the year, so they will be small and strange shapes. I’m so excited for this summer vegetable. We’ve been grilling it as well as putting it on pizzas. I’m sure we will all be sick of it before too long.
Basil: Again, this is the first pick of basil as well. Pesto time!
Fennel (Large shares only): Try grilling. So good!
Spinach (Large shares only): We try to grow spinach all year long, which can be difficult as it likes to bolt quickly in the summertime. Enjoy for now.

Farm Update for the Week of July 19th:
We’ve been busy on the farm. Most of the trellising is done in the hoophouse for the tomatoes. We’ve got lots of large green tomatoes, so hopefully they’ll be ripening soon. We have field tomatoes too and those will need to be trellised as well. We’re caught up on weeding although because we use overhead water, they continue to grow. We weren’t able to save the carrot succession, but we’ll still have carrots throughout the season, just not as many as we usually have. We planted the first of the fall crops — rutabaga and carrots — and we’ll continue to plant roots and brassicas for the next couple of weeks. Much of it will be harvested in October – February for markets and the winter CSA. We’re hoping we start getting a big flush of summer crops coming on in the next couple of weeks — tomatoes, eggplant, peppers, beans and cucumbers. We’re patiently waiting for these to come on. Soon! Enjoy the box this week.
