Farm Update for the Week:
We’re starting to pull out all the storage crops for the winter. Last week, we harvested all the storage onions and shallots and those are curing in the greenhouse. This week, we’ll harvest all the potatoes. We’ve had a weird potato year — we tried a new process of hilling, which didn’t work quite well with our tools. The patch got a little out of control and with weeds and gophers, we’re curious to see the yields. This is one of the reasons you haven’t received very many potatoes in your boxes so far this year. Next week, we butcher meat chickens and harvest winter squash and pumpkins. We’ll be working hard in October to put the farm to bed — get in our cover crop as well as plant onions, garlic & leeks. The tomatoes are getting pulled from the hoophouse today and salad greens, chard, arugula, spinach and radishes will be planted in their place for the winter CSA. If you haven’t signed up for our winter CSA yet and want to, please get in your registration form and deposit soon. It is filling up. Have a great week.
