Farm Update for the Week:
With the frost advisory coming tonight, we spent some time covering a lot of our sensitive head lettuce and salad greens. This is late this year. Usually, by now, we’ve had a light frost and most greens have been covered. We’ll see what the frost does to our summer crops down on Hwy 238 — might be the last of it for eggplant, peppers & summer squash. I think we’re okay with that. We’ve been realizing all of a sudden what a huge winter and fall we have planned for as instead of slowing down, it feels like everything is ramping up. We are pulling so many crops from the ground and more keep coming on. This is going to be the biggest fall and winter we’ve ever had and it is a bit frightening (in a good way, I guess). The days are shorter, the nights and mornings colder, but the workload has continued to stay the same. We’ve also been reduced on our labor, so it has been a pretty interesting realization for us how much food we planned to have in November, December & January. But, with a baby due in a couple of weeks, we’re definitely feeling a little anxious about getting as much as we can done, so we can take a break and enjoy the new addition to our family. Josh has been sprinting these last couple of weeks and we hope it will slow down a bit. I think a frost will help. Hope you are enjoying the change in weather. I know we’ve been making so many more dinners with roots and soups. Love it!
